MATTHEW TUOPARE: PERSONALITY PROFILE.

My name is Matthew Tuopare. I am known in the Ghanaian corporate world as the CEO, Board Chairman and Managing Director of GUO Security Services Ltd. At a personal level, I view myself as a living definition of the ideal that a man is the captain of his soul and can so lead his own ship to wherever he may desire, irrespective of the circumstances of his birth, the conditions of his family and other seeming limitations of environment. When some successful people speak of humble beginnings, I consider mine, the humblest of all beginnings and perhaps, one of the most challenging. Rising from the very depths of poverty and deprivation in a small village called Guo in the Upper West Region, I braved the odds to become the founder of Guo Security Services LTD, an emerging, yet flourishing and formidably pervasive force in the private security services sector of Ghana.

At the professional level, I am a dedicated and principled entrepreneur who, for the time being, is acutely focused in the business of serving people by protecting them and their properties. I love people and I love to keep people around me save and it is this love that has inspired my chosen profession and business specialisation. It is an endeavour that has absorbed nearly the entirety of my professional life and one for which I am exceedingly passionate about. Consequently, I have earned over fifteen years of experience in the Security Industry with specialisation in International and Diplomatic Security Operations. Formal Education wise, I hold a Diploma in Business Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and a Diploma Certificate in International Security Operations from Pretoria, South Africa. I am largely a self-educated man.

My career journey from GUARD to CEO started in 2005 when I was recruited into Intercom as a Security Guard. I proceeded to Intercom Security where I worked briefly as a guard and got promoted to Patrol Supervisor position after two months. From there, I proceeded to Yutees Security Services where I served as Project Manager in charge of Unilever and subsequently, Guinness Ghana Breweries LTD as Project Manager. From there, I moved to Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi, where I served as Corporate Security Manager for the first time, an experience which later earned me an appointment with the British High Commission, Accra, Ghana as Security Manager. My varied and enduring engagement within the security industry of Ghana includes a stint as a consultant for 888 Investment, an Austrian Mining Company in Ghana. Through all these, I have cut across as a distinguished professional, a resilient leader and an impactful corporate executive. It is a little wonder that I was, during my years with the British High Commission, awarded the prestigious High Commissioner’s Award for excellence, in recognition of my heroic demonstration of diplomatic excellence and professionalism towards carving a positive profile to the work of the British High Commission.

In all these, I pride myself neither in the challenges I overcame, nor the positions I occupied, nor the company I built, nor the accolades I am showered with. Likewise, I count my successes not in the number of new contracts I sign per week or in the size of the cheques I receive from clients. Rather, I count my successes in the lives I have touched in my personal and career journey. I am exceedingly proud of the extensive network of ambitious young professionals I have inspired and mentored over the years and who are doing excellently both home and abroad. I am deeply gratified by the many people who recount to me how my simplicity attracted them to me and how my open door policy encouraged them to continually seek my counsel and for which they never gave up in life. These testaments make me pray to God daily in thanksgiving for the grace to touch lives and for more grace to be a better me so as to serve people better and to open doors of opportunity to many more who otherwise would be left behind.
